Kyocera 0.0500" (1.27mm) Diamond-Flute PCB Router | .275" LOC | Drill Point | Up-Cut

The R124 solid carbide diamond-flute router features a 0.0500" (1.27mm) cutting diameter, 0.275" (approximately 7.00mm) length of cut, and a standard 1/8" (3.175mm) shank. Manufactured by Kyocera, this precision PCB router is designed for machining FR4/G10 fiberglass laminates, phenolic materials, and other abrasive composites.

Its diamond-pattern cutting geometry uses numerous small, intersecting cutting edges for controlled material removal. The drill-point tip facilitates plunge entry under suitable cutting conditions, while the 0.275" cutting length provides additional reach compared with shorter routers of the same diameter.

Key Features

  • 0.0500" (1.27mm) cutting diameter: Precision cutting width for PCB profiles, slots, and cutouts
  • 0.275" LOC: Approximately 7.00mm of cutting reach for suitable PCB laminates and composite sheets
  • Diamond-flute geometry: Intersecting cutting edges help control chipping, fraying, and fiber pull-out under appropriate machining conditions
  • Drill-point tip: Designed to facilitate direct plunge entry for internal cutouts and slots
  • Up-cut configuration: Supports upward movement of routing chips and debris
  • Solid tungsten carbide: Provides rigidity and abrasion resistance for precision routing
  • 1/8" shank: Fits compatible CNC spindle collets and precision tool holders

Diamond-Flute Geometry & Drill-Point Tip

Diamond-flute routers, also called diamond-cut or diamond-pattern routers, feature numerous small, intersecting cutting edges rather than conventional continuous spiral flutes. This geometry is especially useful for routing abrasive, brittle, and layered materials such as FR4 printed circuit boards and G10 fiberglass laminates.

The drill-point tip provides a pointed end-cutting geometry intended for entry into suitable workpieces. It is useful when starting internal slots, contours, or cutouts without a separately drilled entry hole, depending on the material and cutting conditions.

Actual plunge performance and edge quality depend on the machine, material, feed rate, spindle speed, tool condition, and workholding. The drill-point design should not be interpreted as permitting aggressive or unrestricted plunging.

0.275" Cutting Length

R124 provides 0.275" (6.985mm) of cutting length, compared with 0.250" (6.35mm) on our R123 drill-point router of the same diameter.

The additional cutting length accommodates suitable thicker workpieces, but longer cutting sections can be more susceptible to deflection under excessive side loads. Choose the shortest practical cutting length for the application and maintain secure workholding.

Important: Diamond-flute describes the cutting-edge geometry. This tool is uncoated solid carbide, not diamond-coated or PCD tooling.

Typical Applications

  • PCB board outlines, profiling, and internal cutouts
  • FR4 and G10 fiberglass laminate routing
  • Phenolic and epoxy laminate machining
  • Fiberglass-reinforced composite trimming
  • Carbon-fiber composites where uncoated carbide tooling is suitable
  • Precision CNC slots, contours, and prototype fabrication
  • Routing suitable materials requiring additional cutting reach

Feeds & Speeds

Proper spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, and secure workholding are especially important when machining abrasive PCB laminates with small-diameter carbide routers.

Cutting recommendations are starting points only. Adjust for material, machine rigidity, spindle capability, tool condition, workholding, and depth of cut. Avoid excessive cutting loads and use appropriate dust extraction when machining fiberglass or carbon fiber.
