Chip Breaker vs Diamond Flute Routers — when to use each →

Chip Breaker Routers

Chip Breaker routers use a segmented cutting edge designed to break chips into smaller pieces, helping promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce heat buildup during cutting.

  • Best for: fiberglass, carbon fiber, phenolic laminates, PCB materials (FR-4), and other abrasive or composite materials
  • Also suitable for: aluminum and non-ferrous metals where chip control is critical, such as roughing or slotting operations
  • Why choose it: limits long, stringy chips that can clog the cut path, improving cut stability and tool life in demanding materials
  • Tip options:
    • Fish Tail: often preferred for gentler entry into brittle or layered materials, helping reduce edge chipping and surface damage
    • Drill Point: commonly used where repeated plunging, denser materials, or added tip strength are required

Use the filters below to narrow results by diameter, flute geometry, plunge tip type, and cut direction to find the exact tool you need.
