Carbide engraving bits (commonly called V-bits or V-groove bits) are precision cutting tools designed for fine detail engraving, lettering, chamfering, and PCB trace isolation routing. Unlike standard end mills, the cutting width is controlled by depth, allowing extremely fine lines and controlled material removal.

These tools are widely used on CNC routers and milling machines for materials such as FR-4 and G-10 laminates, fiberglass, carbon fiber composites, plastics, acrylics, aluminum, brass, hardwoods, and other non-ferrous materials.


Choosing the Right Engraving Bit

Different engraver geometries are designed for different performance levels and applications:

  • Standard V-Bit Engravers: The most common style, offering predictable cut width based on depth. Ideal for PCB isolation routing, lettering, and general engraving.

  • Small angles (10°–30°): Produce extremely fine lines and narrow isolation paths. Best for high-density PCB work and micro-detail engraving.
  • 60°: A versatile general-purpose angle for engraving, scoring, and reliable PCB isolation.
  • 90°–100°: Stronger cutting edges that produce wider grooves, ideal for chamfering, edge breaking, and bold engraving.

PCB note: Because cut width depends on depth, consistent Z-height control, flat spoilboards, and secure workholding are critical for accurate isolation routing.
