This Kyocera 1.40mm (.0551") chip breaker carbide PCB router features a .275" (approximately 7.00mm) length of cut, fish-tail tip, up-cut spiral, 1/8" shank, and 1.50" overall length. Manufactured from solid tungsten carbide, it is designed for precision routing of FR-4, G10, fiberglass, phenolic laminates, and other rigid composite materials.
The spiral chip breaker geometry uses interrupted cutting edges to divide chips into smaller fragments during machining. Combined with the up-cut spiral, this design helps promote efficient chip evacuation and reduce debris accumulation when routing abrasive PCB laminates.
Chip Breaker Geometry and Fish-Tail Tip
- Spiral chip breaker: Helps control chip formation and improve debris removal.
- Up-cut spiral: Directs chips upward and away from the cutting zone.
- Fish-tail tip: Provides end-cutting geometry for PCB profiling and through-cutting, helping reduce exit-side breakout with proper workpiece support.
- .275" LOC: Provides approximately 7mm of cutting length for PCB contours, slots, and composite routing.
- Solid carbide: Provides rigidity and wear resistance for machining abrasive laminates.
The fish-tail configuration is particularly useful for PCB outline routing and through-cutting applications where edge quality matters. Use appropriate backing material and controlled cutting conditions to minimize burrs and laminate damage.

Typical Applications
- PCB outline routing and depaneling
- FR-4 and G10 fiberglass laminates
- Phenolic laminate cutting
- Precision slots and internal PCB contours
- Through-cutting rigid fiberglass sheets
- Selected carbon fiber composite routing applications
Carbon fiber and highly abrasive materials: Uncoated carbide can experience accelerated wear during extended cutting of abrasive composites. For demanding production applications, consider a suitable diamond-coated router.
