This Kyocera 0.0625" (1/16") chip breaker carbide PCB router features an .315" (8.00mm) length of cut, fish-tail tip, up-cut spiral, 1/8" shank, and 1.50" overall length. The diameter is approximately 1.59mm, commonly designated 1.60mm.
Manufactured from solid tungsten carbide, this precision router is designed for machining FR-4, G10, fiberglass, phenolic laminates, and other rigid composite materials.
Chip Breaker Geometry and Fish-Tail Tip
- Spiral chip breaker: Interrupted cutting edges help break chips into smaller fragments and reduce debris accumulation.
- Up-cut spiral: Directs chips upward and away from the cutting zone for efficient chip evacuation.
- Fish-tail tip: Provides end-cutting geometry for PCB profiling and through-cutting, helping minimize exit-side breakout with proper workpiece support.
- .315" LOC: Provides 8mm of cutting length for board outlines, slots, and composite routing.
- Solid carbide: Provides rigidity and wear resistance when machining abrasive laminates.
The fish-tail configuration is particularly useful for PCB outline routing and through-cutting where edge quality matters. Appropriate backing material and controlled cutting conditions help minimize splintering and laminate damage.

Typical Applications
- PCB outline routing and depaneling
- FR-4 and G10 fiberglass laminates
- Phenolic laminate cutting
- Precision slots and internal PCB contours
- Through-cutting rigid fiberglass sheets
- Selected carbon fiber composite routing applications
Carbon fiber and highly abrasive materials: Extended machining of abrasive composites can accelerate wear on uncoated carbide. For demanding production applications, consider a suitable diamond-coated router.
