This Kyocera 0.80mm (.0315") chip breaker carbide PCB router features a 5.00mm (.197") length of cut, fish-tail tip, up-cut spiral, and 1/8" shank. Manufactured from solid tungsten carbide, it is designed for precision routing of FR-4, G10, fiberglass, phenolic laminates, and other rigid composite materials.
Part of Kyocera's Series 2300 Chipbreaker Updraft Router family, this tool features segmented cutting edges that help break chips into smaller pieces during machining. Its geometry supports chip evacuation and controlled cutting when profiling abrasive PCB laminates.
Chip Breaker Geometry and Fish-Tail Tip
- Spiral chip breaker geometry: Interrupted cutting edges help produce smaller chips and reduce chip accumulation during routing.
- Up-cut flute direction: Directs chips upward and away from the cutting zone, helping maintain an effective cutting path.
- Fish-tail tip: Features cutting edges extending across the end of the router to support clean through-cuts and help reduce backside breakout in properly supported laminates.
- 5mm (.197") flute length: Provides cutting reach for PCB profiling, narrow slots, and detailed routing operations.
- Solid carbide construction: Provides rigidity and wear resistance for precision machining of abrasive materials.
The fish-tail configuration is especially useful for PCB outline routing and through-cutting where a clean exit edge is important. Unlike a drill-point router, a fish-tail tool is primarily intended for lateral routing and controlled through-cutting rather than aggressive direct plunging.
For applications requiring pointed entry geometry, consider the corresponding R149D drill-point chip breaker router, which has the same cutting diameter and flute length.

Typical Applications
- PCB outline routing and circuit board depaneling
- FR-4 and G10 fiberglass-reinforced laminates
- Phenolic laminate cutting
- Narrow slots and detailed PCB contours
- Precision through-cutting of thin composite sheets
- Selected carbon fiber composite routing applications
For carbon fiber and highly abrasive composites: Uncoated carbide can be suitable for selected cutting operations, but continuous machining of highly abrasive materials can accelerate tool wear. For demanding production work, a suitable diamond-coated router may offer improved wear resistance.

Feeds, Speeds and Tool Handling
Refer to our Chip Breaker Router Feed & Speed Chart → for general machining recommendations.
The chart includes a specific entry for 0.80mm (.0315") chip breaker routers. Use the published parameters as starting guidelines and adjust for the workpiece material, machine, spindle runout, tool condition, and cutting engagement.
For best results, use rigid workholding, minimal tool runout, appropriate spindle speeds, and controlled cutting depth. Proper support beneath the workpiece helps minimize breakout during through-cutting. Avoid excessive lateral loading or aggressive plunging that could damage this small-diameter tool.
Sold individually. Price is per router bit.
