This Kyocera 2.40mm (.0945") chip breaker carbide PCB router, nominally 3/32", features an extended .430" (10.92mm) length of cut, fish-tail tip, up-cut spiral, 1/8" shank, and 1.50" overall length. Manufactured from solid tungsten carbide, it is designed for precision routing of FR-4, G10, fiberglass, phenolic laminates, and other rigid composites.

The spiral chip breaker geometry uses interrupted cutting edges to break chips into smaller fragments. Combined with its up-cut spiral, this design helps evacuate routing debris and reduce chip accumulation.

Chip Breaker Geometry and Fish-Tail Tip

  • Spiral chip breaker: Helps control chip formation and reduce clogging.
  • Up-cut spiral: Directs chips upward and away from the cutting zone.
  • Fish-tail tip: Provides end-cutting geometry for PCB profiling and controlled through-cutting, helping limit exit-side breakout with proper workpiece support.
  • Extended .430" LOC: Provides approximately 10.92mm of cutting length for deeper profiles, slots, and thicker composite sheets.
  • Solid carbide: Provides rigidity and wear resistance when machining abrasive laminates.

The fish-tail configuration is useful for PCB outline routing, depaneling, and through-cutting applications where edge quality matters. Use suitable backing material, rigid workholding, and controlled cutting engagement to help minimize laminate damage.

Need a shorter cutting length? Our R167 Kyocera Fish-Tail Chip Breaker Router → has the same 2.40mm diameter with a shorter .394" LOC.

Typical Applications

  • PCB outline routing and depaneling
  • FR-4 and G10 fiberglass-reinforced laminates
  • Phenolic laminate cutting
  • Precision slots and internal PCB contours
  • Routing thicker rigid fiberglass and composite sheets
  • Selected carbon fiber composite routing applications

Carbon fiber and highly abrasive materials: Prolonged machining of abrasive composites can accelerate wear on uncoated carbide. For demanding production applications, consider a compatible diamond-coated router.

Feeds, Speeds and Tool Handling

See our Chip Breaker Router Feed & Speed Chart → for general machining guidance.

Adjust cutting parameters for the extended flute length, spindle runout, material, and cutting engagement. Avoid aggressive plunging and excessive lateral loading.
