Kyocera 1.10mm Diamond-Flute PCB Router | .250" LOC | Fish Tail | Up-Cut
The R117 solid carbide diamond-flute router features a 0.0433" (1.10mm nominal) cutting diameter, 0.250" (6.35mm) length of cut, and standard 1/8" (3.175mm) shank. Manufactured by Kyocera, this precision router is designed for routing FR4/G10 circuit board laminates, fiberglass, phenolics, and other abrasive composite materials.
Its diamond-pattern cutting geometry features numerous small, intersecting cutting edges for controlled material removal. The fishtail tip provides end-cutting capability for suitable sheet materials, while the 0.250" LOC offers useful cutting reach for PCB profiling, slots, and cutouts.
Key Features
- 0.0433" (1.10mm) cutting diameter: Suitable for precision PCB outlines, slots, and detailed contours
- 0.250" (6.35mm) LOC: Provides cutting reach for suitable laminate and composite workpieces
- Diamond-flute geometry: Fine, intersecting cutting edges help control fiber pull-out, fraying, and chipping when properly applied
- Fish tail tip: End-cutting geometry supports controlled entry and through-routing in suitable materials
- Up-cut configuration: Designed to assist upward movement of chips and routing debris
- Solid tungsten carbide: Provides rigidity and resistance to abrasive wear
- 1/8" shank: Fits compatible precision CNC spindle collets and tool holders
Diamond-Flute Geometry & Fish Tail Tip
Diamond-flute routers, also called diamond-cut or diamond-pattern routers, use numerous intersecting cutting edges rather than conventional continuous spiral flutes. This geometry is commonly used for routing abrasive, brittle, and layered materials such as FR4 circuit boards and G10 fiberglass laminates.
The fishtail tip features cutting edges at the tool end, allowing plunge entry under suitable cutting conditions. It is commonly used for PCB profiling and through-routing, where controlling edge damage and backside breakout can be important.
The 0.250" cutting length provides approximately 6.35mm of usable flute length. Choose a cutting length appropriate for the workpiece thickness, and provide adequate clearance beneath the material when through-cutting.
Important: Diamond-flute describes the cutting-edge geometry. R117 is uncoated solid carbide tooling, not a diamond-coated or PCD router.
Typical Applications
- PCB board outlines, slots, and cutouts
- FR4 and G10 fiberglass laminate routing
- Phenolic and epoxy laminate machining
- Fiberglass-reinforced composite trimming
- Carbon-fiber composites where uncoated carbide tooling is suitable
- Precision CNC profiling and prototype fabrication

Feeds & Speeds
Proper spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, and secure workholding are particularly important when machining PCB laminates and abrasive composites with small-diameter carbide routers.
View Diamond-Flute Router Feed & Speed Chart for general starting recommendations when routing FR4, G10, fiberglass, and other PCB laminate materials.
Recommended cutting parameters are starting points only. Actual settings depend on the material, spindle capability, machine rigidity, tool condition, workholding, and depth of cut. Avoid excessive side loads and use appropriate dust extraction when machining fiberglass or carbon fiber.
