Kyocera 1.10mm Diamond-Flute PCB Router | .300" LOC | Fish Tail | Up-Cut

The R117A solid carbide diamond-flute router features a 0.0433" (1.10mm nominal) cutting diameter, 0.300" (7.62mm) length of cut, and standard 1/8" (3.175mm) shank. Manufactured by Kyocera, this precision CNC router is designed for routing FR4/G10 circuit board laminates, fiberglass, phenolics, and other abrasive composites.

Compared with our shorter R117 router, R117A provides 20% additional cutting length at the same diameter. Its diamond-pattern cutting geometry uses numerous small, intersecting cutting edges, while the fishtail tip supports entry and through-routing in suitable sheet materials.

Diamond-Flute Geometry & Fish Tail Tip

Diamond-flute routers, also called diamond-cut or diamond-pattern routers, use numerous intersecting cutting edges rather than conventional continuous spiral flutes. This geometry is commonly used in PCB manufacturing and composite routing, especially for abrasive and layered materials.

The fishtail tip provides end-cutting edges for entry into suitable workpieces. Under appropriate cutting conditions, this geometry can help control fiber pull-out, chipping, and edge damage during routing and through-cutting.

Extended .300" Cutting Length

R117A provides 0.300" (7.62mm) of cutting length, compared with 0.250" (6.35mm) on our R117 fishtail router. Both tools have the same 1.10mm cutting diameter.

The longer cutting section provides additional reach but also increases susceptibility to deflection and breakage under excessive cutting loads. Select the shortest practical cutting length for the workpiece and use appropriate cutting parameters.

Important: Diamond-flute refers to the cutting-edge geometry. This router is uncoated solid carbide, not diamond-coated or PCD tooling.

Feeds & Speeds

Proper spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, and secure workholding are particularly important when routing abrasive laminates with small-diameter carbide tools having extended cutting lengths.

Recommended cutting parameters are starting points only. Because R117A has a relatively long cutting section for its 1.10mm diameter, control cutting loads carefully to reduce tool deflection and breakage. Test on scrap material, adjust for machine rigidity and workholding, and use appropriate dust extraction when machining fiberglass or carbon fiber.
