1/8" TiN-Coated Diamond-Flute PCB Router | .512" LOC | Fish Tail | RS-160
The RS-160 titanium nitride (TiN)-coated diamond-flute carbide router features a 0.1250" (1/8", 3.175mm) cutting diameter, 0.512" (13.00mm nominal) length of cut, 1.500" overall length, and 1/8" shank. This solid carbide router is designed for precision CNC routing of FR4/G10 fiberglass laminates, printed circuit boards, carbon-fiber composites, phenolic materials, and other abrasive sheet goods.
Its diamond-pattern cutting geometry features numerous small, intersecting cutting edges for controlled material removal. The fishtail tip provides end-cutting capability for suitable sheet materials, while the TiN coating helps reduce friction and improve wear resistance in appropriate machining applications.
Key Features
- 0.1250" (1/8") cutting diameter: Common fractional size for PCB profiles, slots, contours, and composite routing
- 0.512" LOC: Approximately 13mm of cutting reach for thicker laminates and composite panels
- Diamond-flute geometry: Multiple intersecting cutting edges help control fraying, chipping, and fiber pull-out under suitable machining conditions
- Titanium nitride (TiN) coating: Provides a hard, wear-resistant surface that can reduce friction and extend useful cutting-edge life in suitable applications
- Fish Tail tip: End-cutting geometry supports entry and through-routing in suitable sheet materials
- Solid carbide construction: Provides rigidity and resistance to abrasive wear
- 1/8" shank: Fits compatible precision CNC spindle collets and tool holders
Diamond-Flute Geometry & TiN Coating
Diamond-flute routers, also known as diamond-cut or diamond-pattern routers, feature numerous small, intersecting cutting edges rather than conventional continuous spiral flutes. This cutting geometry is commonly used for machining abrasive and layered materials such as FR4 circuit boards, G10 fiberglass laminates, and fiber-reinforced composites.
The TiN coating provides a hard protective surface over the solid carbide substrate. It can improve resistance to friction-related wear in suitable applications, although actual tool life depends on material abrasiveness, spindle speed, feed rate, tool condition, and workholding.
Important: TiN coating is different from CVD diamond or PCD diamond coatings. RS-160 has diamond-pattern cutting geometry with a titanium nitride finish; it is not a diamond-coated router.
Fish Tail Tip & Extended Cutting Length
The fishtail tip provides cutting edges at the router end. With suitable feeds, speeds, and workholding, this geometry supports routing board outlines, slots, and cutouts while helping control edge damage and material breakout.
RS-160 provides 0.512" (13.00mm nominal) of cutting length, offering additional reach for thicker fiberglass laminates and composite panels.
Longer cutting sections require attention to tool deflection and side loading. Select an appropriate cutting depth for the material and avoid unnecessary tool engagement.
Typical Applications
- PCB board outlines, profiling, depaneling, and cutouts
- FR4 and G10 fiberglass laminate routing
- Carbon-fiber sheet and CFRP composite trimming
- Fiberglass-reinforced composite machining
- Phenolic and epoxy laminate cutting
- Precision CNC routing, slotting, and prototype fabrication

Feeds & Speeds
Proper spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, and secure workholding are important when machining abrasive fiberglass and composite materials with TiN-coated carbide routers.
View Diamond-Flute Router Feed & Speed Chart for general starting cutting recommendations for FR4, G10, fiberglass, and related materials.
Chart values are starting references, not coating-specific machining specifications. Adjust for machine rigidity, spindle capability, material, tool condition, and cutting depth. Use appropriate dust extraction when machining fiberglass or carbon fiber.
