Kyocera 3/32" Diamond-Flute PCB Router | .465" LOC | Down-Cut | Fish Tail
The RS-150 solid carbide diamond-flute router features a 0.0938" (3/32") cutting diameter, 0.465" (11.81mm) length of cut, 1.500" overall length, and 1/8" (3.175mm) shank. Manufactured by Kyocera, this precision router combines down-cut diamond-pattern geometry with a fishtail tip for routing FR4/G10 printed circuit board laminates, fiberglass, phenolic materials, and other abrasive composites.
Unlike an up-cut router, the down-cut configuration helps direct cutting forces and debris toward the workpiece, supporting cleaner top edges and reduced lifting of surface fibers under suitable cutting conditions. This makes RS-150 particularly useful for profiling and trimming composite sheets where top-surface finish is important.
Key Features
- 0.0938" (3/32") cutting diameter: Popular fractional size for PCB outlines, slots, profiles, and internal cutouts
- 0.465" LOC: Extended cutting reach for suitable thicker laminates and composite sheets
- Diamond-flute geometry: Multiple intersecting cutting edges help control fiber pull-out, fraying, and chipping under appropriate machining conditions
- Down-cut configuration: Helps reduce top-surface lifting and supports cleaner upper edges in layered materials
- Fish tail tip: End-cutting geometry supports entry and through-routing in suitable sheet materials
- Solid tungsten carbide: Provides rigidity and resistance to abrasive wear
- 1/8" shank: Fits compatible precision CNC spindle collets and tool holders
Diamond-Flute Down-Cut Geometry
Diamond-flute routers, also called diamond-cut or diamond-pattern routers, feature numerous small, intersecting cutting edges rather than conventional continuous spiral flutes. This geometry is commonly used for machining abrasive and layered materials such as FR4 printed circuit boards, G10 fiberglass laminates, and reinforced composites.
The down-cut flute direction helps press surface fibers toward the workpiece rather than lifting them upward. This can improve top-edge quality when cutting fiberglass, carbon-fiber composites, and laminated sheet materials.
Because down-cut geometry directs debris downward, adequate chip clearance, appropriate cutting depth, and secure workholding are especially important. Actual edge quality depends on the material, machine rigidity, tool condition, and cutting parameters.
Fish Tail Tip & Extended Cutting Length
The fishtail tip provides cutting edges at the tool end, supporting entry and through-routing in suitable sheet materials. With appropriate cutting parameters, it can help control edge damage and material breakout.
RS-150 provides 0.465" (11.81mm) of cutting length, offering reach for thicker composite sheets and laminate panels. Choose a cutting length appropriate for the material thickness and avoid excessive side loading or unnecessary tool engagement.
Material note: Diamond-flute describes the cutting-edge geometry. RS-150 is uncoated solid tungsten carbide, not diamond-coated or PCD tooling.
Typical Applications
- PCB board outlines, depaneling, profiling, and cutouts
- FR4 and G10 fiberglass laminate routing
- Composite sheet trimming where top-edge quality is important
- Phenolic and epoxy laminate cutting
- Fiberglass-reinforced composite machining
- Carbon-fiber sheet profiling where uncoated carbide is appropriate
- Precision CNC routing and prototype fabrication

Feeds & Speeds
Proper spindle speed, feed rate, cutting depth, chip clearance, and secure workholding are important when machining abrasive PCB laminates and composites with down-cut carbide routers.
View Diamond-Flute Router Feed & Speed Chart for general starting cutting recommendations for FR4, G10, fiberglass, and related materials.
Recommended cutting conditions are starting points only. Adjust for the material, machine rigidity, spindle capability, tool condition, and depth of cut. Maintain adequate debris removal and use appropriate dust extraction when machining fiberglass or carbon fiber.
