O-flute end mills are designed for cutting plastics, acrylic, HDPE, polycarbonate, soft aluminum, and other suitable non-ferrous materials. Their open flute geometry provides room for efficient chip evacuation, helping reduce heat buildup, chip recutting, chip welding, and material melting in softer materials.

- Why choose it: The single O-flute design provides large flute clearance for smooth chip flow, which is especially helpful in plastics and softer materials that can melt, gum up, or reweld if chips are not cleared properly
- Cut direction: Up-cut O-flutes help pull chips up and away from the cut and can improve bottom-edge cut quality. Down-cut O-flutes can help improve top-edge finish, but require good chip clearing because they push chips downward into the cut
- Coating options: Available in uncoated, titanium nitride coated, and other supplier-described coated options. For many plastics, an uncoated or polished O-flute is often preferred for clean chip flow. TiN-coated O-flutes may be useful for soft aluminum and other appropriate non-ferrous materials where added wear resistance is helpful
- Common uses: Cutting, slotting, profiling, trimming, and routing plastics where chip evacuation, edge finish, and heat control matter
